Two-part movie focusing on one of Germany's most controversial murder trials after World War II. In spring 1960, Dr. Dietrich Schwarz and his housekeeper Elisabeth Huhn are killed cruelly in his mansion near Munich. Although the police considers suicide, his son brings a charge against his mistress, the self confident Vera Brühne because she inherits the victim's house in Spain. The prosecution runs an investigation and finally believes in the guilt of Brühne and her alleged aide Johann Ferbach. After a dubious trial, they are sentenced to life. Some years later, a young lawyer reviews the files and reveals many inconsistencies.

It follows political events in Russia at the beginning of the century, during the birth of the Social Democratic Party, among the first fighters of which was Vera Protasova, the daughter of a lawyer who defended Narodnaya Volya members in court.

Vera lives solely on the problems of her family: her eternally ill husband Kostya and her fifteen-year-old son Romka. In fact, Vera is happy with everything, until her husband's first love suddenly appears on the horizon - the beautiful Lyudmila and her daughter Yulya. There is nothing special about the latter, but, as luck would have it, it is this girl that Romka is interested in. Now she is seriously thinking about divorce and exchanging an apartment, trying to force her son to move away from Yulka.

Vera and David kiss and undress clumsily and passionately to "watch a movie". Once the "movie" is over, David interrupts her with a terryfing image that threatens their future. Bad latex or human error?

Vera is a young woman who has no memories of her mother. Her desperate search for a mother image merges with her own search of self as she inevitably makes an attempt to define the boundary between herself and a mother she never knew.

A young lawyer arrives on a island in Spain with a weight on his conscience that is about to drive him to suicide. The encounter with a young teenager discovering sexuality will first reveal her vulnerabilities and finally her cynicism.

Vera is left in the hospital to look after her sick grandmother. Vera is not ready for such responsibility. She is looking for support in a new acquaintance.
